Rubbing from the "Mao
Kung" Ting Vessel
King Hsuan
Late Western Chou Dynasty
(ca. 9th-8th century .)
The inscription on
the "Mao Kung" ting vessel
consists of 497 characters
in 32 columns. The style
of the characters, in seal
script calligraphy, matches
that generally found on
bronze bells and ting
vessels. Broadly speaking,
all inscriptions on Shang
and Chou bronzes are
written in seal script
calligraphy.
